Hello everyone, my name is Gia and my parents have been living in Vietnam for years along with the rest of my family.

Due to the heavy rains over the past few days, a record-breaking flood has hit several areas of the country.

The flood also swept through the city where I was born and where my family lives, Nha Trang.

The most affected areas of the city were those near the rivers, at the foot of the mountains, where the streets are narrow and the sewage system is nonexistent.

It all happened in a matter of minutes: the water from the street passed through the gates, rose above the foundation level, and entered the houses.

In the hope of finding a safe place, my parents went up to the outdoor terrace with their little dogs, not knowing they would spend 2 whole days and 2 nights up there.

In the cold, without electricity, without any way to communicate, surviving on biscuits and uncooked instant noodles, and sleeping under a 1.6m table—two of them and the dogs—because the floor was wet.

I didn’t hear from them for days.

The government organized emergency rescue teams to help the population using canoes and small boats, but the strong water currents made all interventions extremely difficult.

My family is now safe, but not everyone has been so lucky. Over 50 people are currently reported dead or missing, and 70,000 have been evacuated. 

The flood destroyed everything in its path, and now nothing remains but mud. The results of countless sacrifices, the harvests of an entire year, homes built with love and a lifetime of savings—gone.

Four of my family’s homes were swept away by the flood.

Unfortunately, the government does not have the resources to help the entire local population, and sadly, there is not enough coverage of this tragedy in international news.

I want to help them personally in any way I can, and I’m asking for your support so I can send enough funds to help my family and my community.

The donations will be used for: purchasing essential goods (packaged food, water, medicine, and clean clothes), temporary accommodations, and repairing—where possible—the damage caused by the flood. Let’s help them rebuild part of their lives and erase at least a piece of this trauma.

My mother will personally manage the funds, distributing them to our family, neighbors, and others affected by the tragedy.

Every cent counts, and every share does too.

Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Gia e i miei genitori da anni vivono in Vietnam insieme al resto della mia famiglia.

A causa delle forti piogge negli scorsi giorni, un'alluvione da record ha colpito diverse zone della nazione.

L'alluvione ha travolta anche la città in cui sono nata e in cui abita la mia famiglia, Nha Trang.

Le zone più colpite della città sono state quelle in prossimità dei fiumi, ai piedi delle montagne, dove le strade sono strette e il sistema fognario inesistente.

È stata una questione di minuti: l'acqua dalla strada ha oltrepassato i cancelli, superando il livello delle fondamenta ed entrando nelle abitazioni.

Nella speranza di trovare un posto sicuro i miei genitori erano saliti sulla terrazza esterna con i loro cagnolini non sapendo che avrebbero passato 2 giorni e 2 notti intere su quella terrazza.

Al freddo, senza corrente, senza possibilità di comunicare, cibandosi di biscotti e noodles istantanei crudi e dormendo sotto un tavolo di 1m60 in due con i cani perché per terra era bagnato.

Non ho avuto notizie di loro per giorni.

Il governo ha organizzato delle squadre d'intervento d'urgenza per soccorrere la popolazione tramite canoe e barchette ma le forti correnti d'acqua hanno ostacolato tutti gli interventi.

I miei familiari ora stanno bene, ma non tutti sono stati così fortunati perché ad oggi si contano oltre 50 tra morti e dispersi e 70mila persone evacuate.

Le persone più in difficoltà sono i bambini e gli anziani.

Il passaggio dell'acqua ha distrutto tutto e ora non si vede altro che fango.

I risultati di tanti sacrifici, i raccolti di un anno intero, le case costruite con amore e risparmi di una vita.

4 sono state le case della mia famiglia travolte dall’inondazione.

Ma la storia della mia famiglia è solo una delle tante.

E tanti una casa non ce l’hanno più.

Il governo purtroppo non ha i mezzi per poter aiutare tutta la popolazione locale e purtroppo ai notiziari internazionali non se ne parla abbastanza.

Voglio aiutarli personalmente nel mio piccolo e chiedo anche il vostro aiuto per poter inviare sufficienti fondi a sostegno della mia famiglia e della mia gente.

I fondi saranno destinati a: acquisto beni di prima necessità (cibo confezionato, acqua, medicinali e vestiti puliti), sistemazioni temporanee e risanamento per quanto possibile dei danni causati dall'alluvione.

Permettiamo a loro di ricostruire un pezzo della loro vita e per poter cancellare soltanto una parte di questo trauma.

Sarà mia mamma ad occuparsi personalmente dei fondi, destinandoli alla famiglia, a vicini e conoscenti colpiti dalla tragedia.

Ogni centesimo conta, ogni condivisione anche.
