Read below to learn the story of how Jesus healed Mateo's foot after forgiving his father.

I met Mateo on a walk downtown near Exploration Place in Wichita, KS on a Sunday afternoon. Our paths crossed as he stepped up on the sidewalk and stumbled next to me due to a limp.

I asked if I could pray for him and if he knew Jesus and he said yes. As I asked the Holy Spirit to heal his foot, I received a word of knowledge that would set him free after decades of emotional pain.

I told him that the Lord was highlighting his need to forgive his father to which he replied, "There is so much hate there".

He continued to share how he has tried to forgive him for the emotional and physical abuse that he received as a young boy and the subsequent affects of that trauma that led to a life of heaviness and cycles of defeat and disappointment. It also stole his smile as his teeth were knocked out and crooked among other life long injuries he sustained as a result of the unprovoked anger and physical abuse of his father.

I told him that I was going to help him to forgive him right then and led him in prayer. Although his father had passed, there were things he needed to say to unlock his soul from the prison of past pain and injustice. The abused young boy was given a voice. After just a couple of minutes, Mateo looked up with wonder in his eyes and a lightness in his face and exclaimed "It's gone! I don't feel the hate anymore! I do forgive him!"

We ended the prayer and he shared that he wanted to fully surrender to Jesus. He said that he had always tried to follow the Lord's precepts, but knew the bitterness and hate that he carried was a barrier to his relationship with God.

He shared that he had been praying for the last week for the Lord to give him a new life and he knew that this encounter was his answer to prayer.

I asked the Holy Spirit to fill Mateo and spoke encouragement for his renewed walk with the Lord. He began to walk around and realized that the pain in his foot had subsided which brought him joy.

He was encountering the presence of Holy Spirit and said he felt so loved by His Father in Heaven in that moment and hadn't felt that good in a long time.

Mateo later shared that he had suffered physical and emotional anguish from a botched hernia surgery in June 2025 that almost took his life. His abdomen was pierced during the surgery and he became septic as a misdiagnosis created a grave delay in the necessary corrective surgery. This negligence led to a hospitalization where they pumped his stomach for 28 days as he fought for his life. He is seeking a malpractice attorney to represent and advocate for him as the health care system failed him despite having insurance.

Mateo has been frustrated and left feeling hopeless due to the lack of care and support from the body of Christ.

He has been struggling to navigate the difficult road to recovery due to the lingering affects of sepsis, the financial strain caused by the medical bills, and the loss of stable employment. He mentioned that he is facing eviction at the end of this month and his car was totaled so he does not have reliable transportation.

The Lord wants to give Mateo a new lease on life and a fresh start for all that he has endured.
