Supporting young people in Palestine through skateboarding
I'm taking part in the Bath Half Marathon on October 20th 2024 and fundraising in aid of SkatePal.
SkatePal is a non-profit organization working with communities throughout Palestine. Since 2013, their award-winning projects have reached hundreds of young people and enabled an ever-growing number of Palestinian skaters to empower themselves and inspire the next generation of Palestinian youth.
More than half of all Palestinians living in the occupied territories are under 21 years old. Yet for many young people across the West Bank and Gaza, cultural, educational and sporting opportunities are limited.
Skateboarding is an important creative outlet that helps to relieve stress, build confidence and form friendships. Its ethos of inclusivity also helps dissolve barriers of class, race, age and gender.
SkatePal is run by a dedicated team of local and international volunteers. I'd be grateful if you could donate and share to others. Thank you so much in advance for your contribution to this cause.
Here is an inspirational short-documentary 'Epicly Palestine'd: The Birth of Skateboarding in the West Bank'.
"This is actually skateboarding. This is how sometimes I explain it. Falling down and getting up is actually part of skateboarding. It's actually fun. That ability to get up and try it again, it helps you in your life. Every trick you land opens a door, a new door for another trick. It teaches you how to get places you've never been, in your mind, your body, and everything." ✌️
