Supporting young people in my local community

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gemma, I am a mum of two from Towcester. I have decided to take on the biggest physical challenge of my life so, far by attempting the National Three Peak Challenge. For those of you who don’t know what this is, I have to clime Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria, and Mount Snowden in North Wales all within 24 hours (including travel time). To achieve this goal I will have to climb at a fast pace and cat nap as we travel from mountain to mountain.

I am attempting this challenge to support an organisation close to my heart and my local community. The 1875 SQD the Towcester Air Cadet Squadron, run by volunteers. These volunteers have connections to the Air Force but ultimately give up their time at least twice a week to support the young people of towcester achieve great things.

The 1875 Squadron provides young people a safe and encouraging environment where they can experience lots of different things from completing DofE award to fight time and even piolet training. Building their confidence and leadership skills, the cadets supports young people with whatever career path they may take in their futures.

My son has experienced some personal trauma since covid and without the 1875 squadron giving him a sense of belonging to something positive, I’m really not sure how he would have coped. Not only has he learned some great life skills, he’s also maybe some great friendships that have carried him through darker days.

The Towcester 1875 SQD are currently fundraising for kit for their DofE expedition. They need, tents, stoves, sleeping bags, rucksacks and so much more equipment that the cadets need to keep them safe and comfortable during their challenges. They are doing lots of fundraising activities themselves such as pop up car washing events, summer fun days and lots more. But I want to use this opportunity to help them out as much as I can and raise some extra funds so that the young people who join in years to come can also make use of the equipment, and everything else the squadron offers the younger community in towcester.

Please give generously to support the futur generation, and I’ll continue to train… hard!
