2020 has been quite challenging for all of us, however what has happened over the last months and recent weeks in our family is indescribable leaving us broken hearted. After our family survived Covid in May, Zack was let go from his dream job at Deer Run Camps and Retreats. In June we found out some good news, and with sweet anticipation and joy we learned we are expecting a baby.

At our 20-week Ultrasound on Oct. 15th, Zack and I found out a baby girl was on the way to the Stroup family.  It felt like nothing else could go wrong in 2020. Just after the ultrasound we learned the heart breaking news. Our baby girl has a birth defect.  We were told we would be going to see a specialist the next week to confirm what the first ultrasound showed, our little one has anencephaly.  Although her heart was beating, and she was growing, we were told she will not live long following her birth.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve met teams of doctors and learned more about this very rare condition our baby girl has.  We are choosing to embrace this painful season, accepting it’s not going to be like we hoped and dreamed with her coming home to live with us. Instead she will go meet her Heavenly Father.
