Frank and Morgan Smuk buried their son Sammy too soon, at the young age of 5, after a post-birth diagnosis of FOXG1 syndrome. At the time of Sammy's birth, Frank and Morgan were told that the diagnosis had a "one in a million" chance of recurring. Unfortunately, the Smuks have continued to struggle with this diagnosis. Their daughter Sofija was born in 2020 with FOXG1 syndrome, just like her older brother Sammy.
(To learn more about FOXG1 please visit https://foxg1research.org/foxg1syndrome.)
After Sofija's birth, further research was done to determine that Frank and Morgan, in reality, have a 50% risk of conceiving a baby with FOXG1 syndrome. Currently, their only hope of conceiving a healthy baby is through IVF with extensive genetic testing.
The Smuks are surrounded by such loving and generous friends and family. As close friends of Frank and Morgan, we wanted to create this fundraiser to make it easy for anyone who knows and loves them to help them financially. Any donations will be put directly towards IVF treatment, genetic testing, and current medical bills. No monetary amount is too small; in fact, the best way to help this beautiful family is to share this link.
Frank and Morgan have carried themselves with such grace, hope, and humor throughout these incredibly difficult and emotionally draining six years. They are an inspiration to all of us, and especially to their children.
