Supporting the family of Doug Smith

Hi, my name is Amanda Bertrand and I am fundraising on behalf of the sons of Doug Smith, Douglas (Dougie), and Tyler (Ty) Smith. My mom, Sandi, has been dating Doug for the past 5 years, and Doug, Dougie, and Tyler are like family to me.

Their father, Doug Smith (49), recently lost his battle to Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Doug has been facing medical complications since the beginning of December and was informed of his stage 4 cancer diagnosis in January. He was an amazing father, family member, and friend - and was taken from us far too soon.

Doug was one of the most hard-working, selfless, caring, and generous people I know. He was a “jack of all trades” and was always there to lend a helping hand to others. No task was too big for Doug - even if something was unfamiliar to him, he would take time to research and learn how to get the job done. He touched so many lives.

Doug’s sons, Dougie and Tyler were his pride and joy. Doug has been raising his boys as a single father since 2015. Despite working long hours and multiple jobs in order to give his boys the best life he could, he always found time to be at all of their events. He also was involved in their extracurriculars (football and Timber Team) - volunteering his time and talent to support his boys and their peers. Dougie (21) is currently completing his electrical apprenticeship in IBEW Local 488. Tyler (19) is currently a junior at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, pursuing a degree in computer information systems and cyber security. Both of Doug’s boys have a great work ethic, just like he had!

Now that Doug has passed, the boys are left with a lot of responsibility as they are trying to navigate life without their father. They wish to remain in their family home with their dog, Lyla, but have many expenses that they will need to cover including: the mortgage, household expenses, and school tuition, as well as the medical expenses from their father’s cancer care.

All Doug wanted was to see his boys succeed. Please consider making a donation and sharing this page to support his sons and help them live out their father’s wishes - anything helps. All raised funds will be transferred to the beneficiaries, Dougie and Tyler, and will be used to offset the cost of funeral services and their new living expenses.
