March 21, 2026 CMS Corrals were hit with a devastating fire in the afternoon. A fire was started in the Scott’s Bottom Nature Area; the wind blew the fire next to and into the corrals. The fire caused significant damage to the area causing around 12 barns to burn to the ground. They have lost all possessions inside the barns including all the tack, saddles, blankets, bridles, hunting equipment and several have lost their horse trailers. All of those owners have also lost their hay; hay to feed though July. Other items such as mounting blocks, water troughs, feed pans, supplements, hay rakes, pitch forks, small water buckets were also burned as well.
The devastation continued and caused one horse to be injured and had to be put down. All the other horses were turned out, later to be found and now being housed at other corrals.
Loss for each owner is catastrophic and will vary depending on what was in their barn along with cost to rebuild. I personally have estimated losing around $11,000-$15,000 worth of tack and hay, and barn estimates are being totaled and and evaluated. Currently insurance coverage is unknown at this point.
We are hoping to rally as a community to help ease some of the burden during this difficult time. Any donation - big or small - will go directly toward rebuilding the barn and supporting their farm as they recover.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean so much to each and everyone of us.
