Someone very close and dear to me had their life change forever just before Christmas last year.
They were diagnosed with a very large tumour in their spinal cord and faced an extremely high-risk operation. None of the possible outcomes were good, and they were told there was a very real chance they may not wake up from surgery. Preparing for this while having young children at home was an unimaginable mental struggle — but their children gave them the strength and determination to keep going.
Against all odds, they survived the operation. However, they woke unable to walk or feel the right side of their body.
Through sheer determination, intensive rehabilitation, and using their children as motivation, they learned to walk again. Sadly, they have not regained the use or feeling on the right side of their body and continue to live with permanent physical challenges.
The past year has been a constant physical and emotional battle, trying to adapt to a new reality while still giving their children some sense of normal life. One of the most heartbreaking parts has been watching their partner give up everything to become a full-time carer, while also caring for their children alone.
Once a fit, hardworking, hands-on parent and partner, there have been moments of deep emotional struggle as they grieve the life they once had and the impact this has had on their family.
On top of everything, the family is now facing significant financial hardship. With only one income gone and ongoing medical and rehabilitation costs, everyday expenses have become extremely difficult to manage.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help ease the financial pressure — assisting with basic living costs, medical and rehabilitation expenses, and giving this family some breathing space as they continue their journey of recovery.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a genuine difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support.
