Skyla is an eight-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia.

Instead of school runs, playdates and carefree afternoons, Skyla is now facing a long and intensive treatment journey — expected to last around two years — filled with frequent hospital visits, powerful medications, and days that are physically and emotionally exhausting.

Treatment is life-saving, but it is also relentless. Skyla is navigating hair loss, painful skin reactions, weight changes caused by medication, and the emotional impact of seeing her life look very different from her friends’. She is incredibly brave — but like any child, she needs comfort, joy, and a sense of normality around her — especially on the days that feel hardest.

As a community, we want to help create that for her.

Skyla’s family are kind, private people who would never ask for help, which is why this fundraiser has been set up by friends, with their knowledge and permission — not at their request, but as a gift from those around them, stepping in with love, quietly and generously.

Our hope is to ease some of the practical pressures of daily life so that Skyla’s parents can focus on what matters most — being present with her, supporting her through treatment, protecting her emotional wellbeing, and creating meaningful moments that lift her spirits along the way.

As with many families facing long-term treatment, the reality of frequent hospital visits and ongoing care inevitably affects day-to-day life, including work. Skyla’s dad is a contractor, meaning time at the hospital is time away from income, and her mum has limited paid leave available. Over the course of a two-year treatment journey, this creates a very real pressure — one we hope to ease, so the focus can remain where it matters most — on Skyla.
