Hi everyone, my name is Grace and I am a Year 13 student at Langley Park School for Boys.
In July, I will leave for a 3 week volunteering trip across Sri Lanka with The Mighty Roar Project. A travel company that provides experiences working in schools, nurseries and animal conservation sites around the world.
This company offers volunteers like myself the opportunity to travel and explore new places while making a positive impact on local communities. I will be teaching English to primary school aged children for the first part of my volunteering program. This is something I am very excited and passionate to undertake.
The second part of my volunteering will be at a Sea Turtle conservation where I will be cleaning their hatches, patrolling the beach at night to keep the eggs safe and helping them reach the sea once they hatch. I will also be participating in a beach cleanup every day to collect plastic preventing the turtles from consuming it and risking their lives.
The trips that Mighty Roar offer look incredible, and will give me valuable experience which will support the degree in Law which I will be starting in September. I have a keen interest in Human rights laws, Environmental law and International relations.
TMR’s aim to provide education in less privileged areas is something I am very passionate about, and am very excited to get involved in.
Although the company’s prices are significantly lower than other organisations, it is of course not cheap, as they rely on volunteer fees to fund the schools, nurseries and conservation projects. Therefore, TMR suggests fundraising to cover some of the trip's costs. I have been saving up money by working (tutoring in English) for the last year, and will continue to do so until I leave but hope to boost my trip’s funds with help from friends and family. Alongside this, I will be setting up multiple fundraising events to contribute towards this project. Any kindly donated money will be paid directly to The Mighty Roar to support the schools and marine conservation and local teams in Sri Lanka. Allowing these projects to keep running for years to come, as well as helping fund my time there.
I am really excited to go, and incredibly grateful I have this opportunity!! Thanks so much for reading, any donations are massively appreciated! I will link their website down below if anyone wants to read more into it.
I will be setting up a page on my social media for anyone interested in following my volunteer project.
Thanks again,
Grace Grinham
