Dear Friends,
For those who don't know me, I'm Michael McMillan's sister, Faye (or, as the family call me, Bloss).
Forty years ago this year, on my birthday, I watched my big brother leave to begin his journey in the Australian Army. I could never have imagined where that journey would take him. Over the next 35 years, Michael served his country with courage, loyalty and integrity. Like many of you, I have witnessed his generosity, his compassion, and his unwavering commitment to supporting others.
I have also witnessed the battles that many people never see.
Over the years, there have been times when Michael's family and friends have worried deeply as he fought his own demons, carried the burden of service, and faced significant physical and mental health challenges. Through it all, he has continued to move forward with resilience and determination.
One of the things that has always defined Michael is his ability to solve problems. He has an engineer's mind and a soldier's practicality. He sees possibilities where others see obstacles. In recent years, he has poured his energy, experience and engineering expertise into developing the Armoured ATV, an innovation born from decades of military experience, practical knowledge, and a desire to contribute something meaningful. Michael would love to showcase the Armoured ATV at Land Forces 2026 in Perth, Australia's premier defence industry event.
The challenge is simply getting there.
Michael estimates it will cost around $50,000 to transport the Armoured ATV and attend the event. Every dollar will go towards getting him and his creation to Perth and supporting his mental health and emotional wellbeing.
I am supporting a GoFundMe campaign. Whether you can contribute financially, offer advice, make introductions, or simply share his story, every act of support will make a difference.
For me, this is about helping Michael continue to do the things that give him purpose, joy and hope. It is about supporting him to keep using the engineering skills, creativity and determination that have defined so much of his life. Most importantly, it is about helping him continue his fight against the constant Black Dog, so that those of us who love him, and those whose lives he has touched, can have him in our lives for many years to come.
Most importantly, if Michael's story resonates with you, please share the GoFundMe page with your veteran networks, mates, family, friends and community groups. Every share increases the chance that someone who served alongside Michael, worked with him, or simply believes in supporting veterans will see his story. Together, we can help him get to Perth and remind him that he is not carrying this journey alone.
My deepest appreciation
Faye (Bloss) McMillan
