Creating Life-Changing Opportunities for Disabled Children, Adults and Our Wider Community

We are incredibly proud to announce that Rowntree CIC, a Community Interest Company dedicated to improving lives through equine-assisted wellbeing and support, has officially been granted planning permission to build our new Equine Therapy Centre in Nottingham.

Approved by Gedling Borough Council in October 2025, this exciting milestone brings us one step closer to creating a purpose-built, fully accessible and inclusive facility that will support disabled children, disabled adults, individuals with additional needs, and people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges across Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands.

Who We Are:

Rowntree CIC is a Community Interest Company that exists to benefit the communities we serve. Our mission is to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the therapeutic benefits of working with and around horses.

We are particularly passionate about ensuring that disabled children and adults have access to safe, meaningful and inclusive activities that promote confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing and social connection.

Through our work, we see every day how the unique bond between horses and people can have a profound impact on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

Why This Centre Is Needed:

Many disabled children and adults face barriers to accessing therapeutic activities, community services and inclusive environments.

Families often struggle to find facilities that are truly accessible, supportive and tailored to individual needs.

At the same time, growing numbers of people are experiencing:

Mental health challenges

Anxiety and depression

Social isolation and loneliness

Physical disabilities

Learning disabilities and additional needs

Low confidence and reduced wellbeing

Our Equine Therapy Centre will provide a dedicated space where people can feel valued, included and empowered while benefiting from the unique therapeutic connection with horses.

What We Are Building:

Working alongside Nottingham-based specialists Property Design Studio, we have designed a centre that puts accessibility, inclusion and wellbeing at its heart.

The development will include:

✓ Purpose-built stables and horse care areas

✓ Indoor therapy, learning and activity spaces

✓ Safe and inclusive outdoor environments

✓ Community wellbeing facilities

✓ Spaces designed to support disabled children, disabled adults and individuals with additional support needs

Every aspect of the centre has been carefully planned to ensure it is welcoming, safe and accessible for everyone who uses it.
