We are writing today to the many people in our not-so-tiny community whose families have been so fortunate to have Ms Yuli be a part of their children's care and growth at Tiny World over the past many years. This message is an invitation to Yuli Soto's "extended family" to be part of her support system during a difficult season of their lives.
Cael's health
In early September, Yuli and Martin's darling 2-year-old son Cael was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and he has since gone through a month of in-patient treatment at Boston Children's Hospital. His blood counts were stable enough that he was able to return home in early October, and he will be in regular outpatient care at Dana Farber over the next 6 months, with ongoing care and medical treatment over the next 2 years. The good news: Cael is currently in good spirits and experiencing no significant symptoms; he is under world class pediatric care with a positive prognosis for a disease that is well known and has a strong treatment plan; and, of course [and most importantly!], he has the most amazing and loving parents.
The challenges ahead
Yet even with all that is positive, this reality is a challenging one to navigate, and the treatment plan and timeline for Cael requires many sacrifices and major changes for the whole family, especially in the next year. And, because treatment makes Cael quite vulnerable to illness and will require someone dedicated to his care full-time, both Cael and Yuli have left Tiny World for the coming year. That means that Cael will rely on his parents for his full-time care and nurturing, and Yuli will not be working while she is fully dedicated to Cael's care.
The burdens of going through childhood leukemia and supporting family through it are heavy enough, and we know there are so many of us who want to help and may be in a position to give. As part of a vast, loyal, loving, and compassionate community, each of us can pitch in a little to make a big impact and show our collective care for a family we hold so dear.
This GoFundMe will support Yuli, Martín, and Cael in their medical and everyday expenses, including health insurance, medical bills/deductibles, meals/groceries and transportation, and other living expenses. Your generosity is much appreciated during a time when unexpected and significant changes in family work/income combined with increased expenses are a source of added stress and worry.
