Mental Health Advocates for Mental Health America

Mental Health America (MHA) promotes awareness, provides resources, and assists individuals in understanding how mental health works. They are the leading non-profit dedicated to the promotion of mental health. Mental health is important from childhood to older adulthood. Anyone can experience mental health challenges at any stage in life.

Our Why
We started Mental Health Advocates because we ourselves have gone through a lot of mental health issues growing up. For one of us, growing up between parents in the midst of divorce and being a social outcast at school, it was hard to find hope. At the time, it felt like they had nobody to lean on. Parents were always arguing, and there were no real friends to speak about their issues with. A non-profit like Mental Health America would have helped them a lot in those times of distress. This is one of the reasons we started Mental Health Advocates.

As another reason, many of us face self-worth issues. We feel like we don't provide much to society, as if we truly don't matter, and constantly compare ourselves to those around us. The onslaught of these feelings unfortunately leads many to develop longstanding issues within their social lives, and from an intrapersonal standpoint, they never recover. People like this are not alone, and have never been.

At Mental Health America, we take pride in approaching everyone with the love and care they each individually deserve as members of society, no matter who.

Statistics For Mental Health Awareness
The need for Mental Health Awareness is higher than ever. Because of the wide range of influences on mental health, it is much more common. In 2024 in the U.S alone, over 60 million people experienced mental illness, and about 3 million children, ages 12 to 17, had recurring thoughts of suicide. These stats show just how diverse mental illness really is and the growing need for resources. On top of this, there are many factors that contribute to mental health illness. Some of these include but are not limited to: genetics and family history, stress, trauma or abuse, serious medical conditions, loneliness, and alcohol or drug abuse. Considering these are just some of the factors, it really goes to show just how common mental illness has become.

Allocation of Funds
Any money raised through our fundraiser will funnel directly towards Mental Health America. MHA uses the money in various ways to support individuals struggling with mental health, as well as raising awareness. Some of this includes but is not limited to: public education and screening, direct service and support, advocacy and public policy, and research.
