Hi, my name is Carissa and I’m fundraising for my best friend’s father, Manuel.

Manuel has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, and doctors have given the family very limited time. This news has completely shattered everyone who loves him.

Manuel is an incredible father to Manuel Jr. and Mayra. He’s also a grandfather whose love has shaped his grandchildren’s world. His granddaughter Annabella shares an especially deep bond with him, seeing him as her safe place, her guide, and one of the most important people in her life. This is truly heartbreaking for her.

For nearly three decades, since 1997, Manuel has managed The Golden Skate skating rink in San Ramon, Ca. Manuel gave me my first job 18 years ago. He has dedicated his life to creating a safe, joyful space for kids, teens, and families. If you grew up in the area, you’ve probably seen him there… working hard, smiling, and treating everyone with kindness.

With his birthday next week and the holidays right around the corner, this diagnosis has been especially heartbreaking. What should be a time of celebration has become a time of unimaginable pain, fear, and financial stress.

On top of the heartbreak, this has placed an overwhelming amount of responsibility on his daughter, my best friend Mayra. She’s had to make painful medical decisions, sign paperwork no daughter ever wants to sign, and take on the things her dad has always handled… the house, the bills, and all the daily responsibilities he quietly carried for his family. The emotional weight has been crushing, and every bit of support helps lift some of that burden during a time when all she wants is to be by her father’s side.

We are asking for donations to help support Manuel’s family during this devastating time… for medical needs, lost income, and the ability for them to focus on every moment they have left with him. Any donation will help them stay afloat during this painful transition and give them the time and space they need to grieve.
