Supporting Kerryn to a speedy recovery without the stress.

Hi Everyone,

I have spoken to Kerryn today. He has had an amazing report today that his kidney function is now back up to 68%. He has been discharged from the surgical team and now seeing doctors on Monday and Friday’s. Doctors told Kerryn today that they are very happy with his progress and MAY discharge him home to Mackay on Friday.
This is such awesome news for Kerryn and his little family. The future is certainly brighter with Kerryn now able to do so much more in life without having to attend dialysis.

Once again, much love and appreciation for the support shown to Kerryn, Jenna, Kamea, Korbin and Frankie.

Thankyou Andrea

hi Everyone,

just an update on Kerryn’s progress and recovery.

Kerryn was discharged from hospital last Sunday 16/2. He is recovering and staying in accommodation close to the hospital. He is progressing really well with no issues.
The new kidney is functioning really well and his body is accepting it. He has started to lose the fluid that he was unable to do so being on dialysis.

This is an awesome achievement and a healthy road to recovery and a normal life for this little family in the near future.

I am sure a trip home to Normanton will be on the cards once Kerryn gets the all clear to travel I know that being unable to travel and visit family back home has been very hard for Kerryn, as we all know how much he loved to go home as often as he could.

Thankyou so much to everyone who has donated or sent well wishes to Kerryn. This is received with much and appreciation.

I will keep everyone updated on Kerryn’s progress.

With much love and appreciation to everyone for your support ❤️
Andrea

Hi my name is Andrea.

I have started this gofundme page to help support my cousin Kerryn Grieve, wife Jenna and three beautiful children, Kamea, Korbin and Frankie, through his journey and recovery back to good health.

Kerryn was diagnosed with Lupus in 2008, at 19 years young. Kerryn also has rheumatoid arthritis.

Lupus can affect the kidneys through a condition called "lupus nephritis," where the body's immune system attacks the kidneys, causing inflammation in the small blood vessels within the kidney, potentially leading to protein in the urine, blood in the urine, high blood pressure, and in severe cases, kidney failure, essentially impairing the kidney's ability to filter waste from the blood properly.

Since first being diagnosed, Kerryn’s kidneys have slowly been deteriorating and he commenced doing dialysis at home in 2019 after his kidney functions had dropped to 8 %. In 2024, Kerryn became unwell, and was unable to work for an extended period and had to switch from home dialysis, to attending the Renal unit three days a week.

Kerryn was placed on the transplant list November 2024 after being on dialysis for 6 years.

On Friday 7/2, Kerryn received a call from the PA Hospital, to say that he was now number four on the kidney transplant list.
Then at 1.30 am on Monday 10/2, they received the miracle call to say that they had kidney match.

Kerryn and Jenna had to pack up, leaving the two younger kids, Korbin and Frankie with Jenna’s mum and sister, while they boarded the flight to Brisbane from their home base of Mackay.

With everything happening very quickly. Kerryn was in surgery by 1.30 pm, receiving his new kidney, with his transplant surgery going very well.

Kerryn and Jenna also received the excellent news on Friday 13/02 , that after having further tests, the new kidney is functioning very well, with no signs of rejection on day five.

It will be a long road to recovery, with Kerryn having to stay in Brisbane for the next 8 weeks at this stage, to monitor his new kidney and rehabilitation to ensure he recovers fully and he is in good health.

During Kerryn’s health journey, he has continued to try and live and work a normal family life. During this time Kerryn is unable to work, as he will be based in Brisbane where he can focus on recovering.

We are reaching out to try and support Kerryn and Jenna. If you are able to contribute in any way, does not matter how big or small, every little bit will be much appreciated by the family.

If you cannot contribute, please just offer your well wishes and support to Kerryn and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Funds will be paid direct to Kerryn and the family.

Really appreciate every bit of support and kindness.

Regards
Andrea
