Our Story: How DJing for Diabetes Was Born

Hi, I am Wendell Mosby, and I am the founder of DJing for Diabetes Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes through the power of music, education, and community engagement.

The journey with diabetes became personal when our son, Myles, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 7. As a family, we were suddenly faced with learning how to manage a lifelong condition—balancing blood sugars, insulin, and daily routines. But more than anything, we wanted Myles to know that diabetes wouldn't stop him from living his dreams.

Before his diagnosis, Myles fell in love with DJing. We got him a mixer, and during the pandemic, he entertained his classmates by DJing virtual parties, spreading joy when the world felt uncertain. But after his diagnosis, DJing took on an even greater meaning.

For Myles’ first Diaversary (the one-year anniversary of his diagnosis), Tiffany visited his classroom to educate his peers about Type 1 diabetes. She created fun, interactive games to help his classmates understand what Myles goes through every day. To celebrate, Myles DJ’ed the party—spinning music and lifting spirits.

That moment became the spark for a movement. We realized how powerful music can be—not just for joy, but as a tool for education, awareness, and unity. That’s when DJing for Diabetes Foundation, Inc. was born.

Why We Created DJing for Diabetes Foundation, Inc.

Diabetes can feel overwhelming, especially for children and families—but no one should have to face it alone. Our mission is to create a foundation that:

Empowers and Uplifts – Using music and creative arts to help kids with diabetes see that their diagnosis doesn’t define them.

Educates and Advocates – Developing school-based programs, games, and resources to raise awareness and understanding of diabetes.

Builds Community – Creating inclusive events where families can connect, celebrate milestones, and feel seen and supported.
