Greetings,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I’m reaching out at a point in my life where stability, safety, and a sense of home are finally within reach — but I need some help to get there.
After experiencing homelessness for two years due to domestic violence and abuse, and spending that time sofa‑surfing wherever I could, I was finally offered a council flat. It’s the first place I can call my my home after a life of instability. I’ve now been here just under a year, but the flat was handed over in very poor condition, and I haven’t been able to make it safe or liveable because of my financial situation.
My bedroom, hallway, stairs, and living room have no proper flooring. The bare subfloor is exposed, uneven, and in some areas even has nails sticking out, which makes it unsafe to walk on. It has also created serious tension with my neighbour, who can hear every sound from my flat above because there’s no flooring to absorb noise — something that’s led to a hostile situation I’ve been trying hard to manage. Living like this has been stressful and exhausting, especially after fighting so hard just to be housed.
I work part‑time while studying for my MA, doing everything I can to stay afloat without dropping out. But between low income, the cost of living, and recovering mentally and physically from homelessness and trauma, I simply cannot afford the essential repairs and furniture needed to turn this space into a safe home. Not having flooring or basic items has made it extremely difficult to settle, study, and rest— all things I desperately need to rebuild my life.
I am now reaching out to the community for the support I need and should have received from the local council and government. I believe with your [my community's] support, this fundraiser will help me finally move forward. Your support will allow me to make the flat safe, reduce conflict with my neighbour, and create a stable environment where I can focus on healing, my studies, and building a better future. And thus be able to be an active member in the community and be able to live my dreams.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will genuinely make a difference. And I want to add transparency in what I need and the total is £3000.
Here is a breakdown of Costs
• £2,000 — Laminate flooring for the entire flat (to replace the bare, hazardous subflooring)
• £300 — Carpet for the staircase
• £100 — 2–3 months of therapy and counselling
• £600 — Essential furniture and basic home items (seating, storage, etc.)
Total goal: £3,000
I am thankful you taking the time to read, share and for any support you’re able to give. It truly means more than I can express.
Blessings
