My name is Matthew John E Thorn, and I'm based in the United Kingdom. I'm deeply passionate about volunteering and the vital role it plays in supporting communities across the country—from food banks and homeless shelters to environmental clean-ups and youth mentoring programs.

Many dedicated volunteers give their time freely, but they often face personal costs that can become a barrier: travel expenses, equipment, training fees, or even basic supplies. This fundraiser will directly support volunteers by covering these costs, enabling more people to get involved and make a real difference.

Why is this cause important to me?

In the UK, volunteers contribute billions of hours each year to charities and community groups, helping those in need during challenging times like the cost-of-living crisis and post-pandemic recovery. By removing financial hurdles, we empower more individuals to serve their communities, creating stronger, more connected neighbourhoods for everyone.

All funds raised will be used transparently and directly to:

Reimburse travel costs (public transport, fuel) for volunteers attending shifts or events

Provide essential equipment and supplies (hi-vis vests, tools, PPE, refreshments)

Fund training courses, certifications, and background checks required for volunteering

Support volunteer coordination: organising events, appreciation gatherings, and outreach to recruit new helpers

I will personally manage the funds (partnering with established UK charities where needed) and provide full transparency with regular updates: photos and videos from volunteer activities, stories from those helped, detailed expense reports, and measurable impact (e.g., hours volunteered, people supported).

Even £10 or £20 can cover a volunteer's travel for multiple shifts or buy essential kit. Together, we can amplify the incredible work of UK volunteers and build kinder communities!
