Over new year I went on a little solo journey to Sri Lanka, mainly to kickstart my fitness journey back up again, and also revisit an care home I had visited a decade ago, but as well as doing that I managed, with the help of my friends kind donations, my driver in Sri Lanka and his sister, we were able to also supply new shoes, school supplies and sanitary products to 30 children in rural Sri Lanka where jobs and opportunities are scarce.
I left knowing that I could and wanted to do more.
One of the last messages I received from the doctor that helped organise all of this read:
“Hello ,
Hollie this is Update regarding your donation ☺️.
I went to school and distributed remaining items and food items to the school students and handed over those books to the school library..
i spoke with students asked regarding other things they need , most of students were telling the struggle that their parents face to find food items ( rice , milk powder, grains , fruits, vegetables, meat ) most of students told they eat rice and casava leaves sambal only for the lunch , some times they skip breakfast … they told very rarely they eat meat , fish (protein items )
Some students told they used to wear same clothes for years since their parents cannot buy new clothes since they are very expensive…
Some students told they are having 2 or 3 siblings in each family so they face difficulty to buy school supplies or any toys for all siblings…
And I distributed baby clothes, milk powder, pampers, to the child and neonatal clinics last week …”
It costs approximately $500 a month to sponsor all of these children, to help raise funds I’ll spend the next 9 weeks training for the Pocari Sweat 10K run on the 12th of April, hoping to raise enough to be able to support them over the next coming months.
I dip in and out of my fitness, allowing myself to get distracted, I felt a 10K would be hard work, but attainable, and would give me something to be consistent with an work towards an actual goal.
Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for your donation.
♥️
