Every Child Deserves to Feel Seen, Valued and Remembered

Imagine being a child in care, away from your family and everything you know. Now imagine arriving in a new country after fleeing war or conflict, and having to start again without the people and things that make you feel at home.

This is the reality for some of the Muslim children and young people in care in Hillingdon, a London borough close to Heathrow Airport. Hillingdon supports many unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who have arrived in the UK, including young people who have fled war and conflict.

For these children, being given a Qur’an, a prayer mat or the chance to celebrate Eid may seem like a small thing. But when you have lost so much, these simple things can bring comfort, familiarity and a feeling of belonging.

Through our community initiative, sponsored by Sparks Fostering, we are raising money to support Muslim children in care in Hillingdon with the things they need to practise their faith and feel connected to their identity.

We have already helped support Ramadan and Eid celebrations, creating opportunities for children to eat together, receive gifts and celebrate an important part of who they are.

For a child who may have left their family, their home and even their country behind, being remembered at Eid can mean more than we realise.

We want these children to know that someone cares. That their faith matters. That their identity matters. And that they have not been forgotten.
