My brother, Marcus, and I felt inspired to set up this Go Fund Me page in the hope that through the ‘power of many’ our mother can focus on her cancer battle without financial concerns.
Our mother is the most inspirational and loving person we know. She always puts others’ needs first and is always helping others improve their lives and make a difference. We believe her selflessness and constant hard working, along with some bad things that have happened to her, have finally taken their toll. She had breast cancer last year and near-death anaphylaxis, so last year was a rollercoaster. Thankfully, she got the all clear in March, but it turns out this was incorrect and the cancer had actually come back in two places and scans have shown lung issues too which are being investigated. We watched her burn out at work and she finally had to leave last month due to her health. Yet, once again, she had mostly been concerned with our family’s wellbeing and financial situation, and prioritised this over herself.
We desperately want her to be able to focus on her upcoming surgeries and recovery, and to not worry about us or finances, so we thought that we would set this up in the hope that through the ‘power of many’, small financial generosities will make a big difference.
The past months, we have seen one thing after another knock our mother down and each time she uses it as a learning opportunity for us and to demonstrate real life perseverance, faith and hope. Yet, she wants to share this further and has aspirations for a blog and a children’s book. But first we want her to be able to fully focus on herself and her health, and make a full recovery.
She has always impressed upon us the importance of individuality, kindness and constantly challenging ourselves…and that anything is possible as ‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’. She shows us that there is a positive in every situation, and that facing our fears makes us stronger. We want to help her, and hope this will do that.
If you are reading this without knowing our mother, please know that she brings so much good to the world by positively impacting everyone’s lives she touches. She wants the best for everyone, and makes people believe in themselves, achieve their potential and make a difference for others.
She was deeply moved by the following message she received last week from a lady who used to work for her (but we think this sums up both who she is and her impact on others):
“I’m so sorry that you’ve had a recurrence. You are in my prayers and I am always here for you. When I met you for the first time, I was so impressed with you. I didn't know anything about you, but I remember saying to myself what a beautiful human being who carries light in her smile. I believe in you. You are the strongest, kindest woman I know. I am miles away but my prayers and good thoughts will always be with you. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️”
We also want to give a shout-out to our wonderful father. Everyone who knows him knows how amazing he is too. Our parents’ 20th wedding anniversary is coming up, but in the midst of tests and treatment, this is sadly taking a sideline. We would love to surprise them somehow!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance should you wish to help.
Love and best wishes
