Black Girls Code - Lindsey's 23rd Birthday
Today is my 23rd birthday, and with the recent murder of George Floyd as well as the growing support for ending racial inequality, I have been reflecting on the privilege, resources and opportunities that played an integral role in where I am today. This inspired me to think about how I can further educate myself on racial inequality as well as how I can help support minority organizations, specifically those investing in black-youth focused programs.
I learned that white households are 2x more likely to have internet access than African American households, just 25% of people in tech are women, and only 3% are specifically black women.
Therefore, I am choosing to donate and volunteer my time with Black Girls Code , an organization committed to teaching 1 million underprivileged girls of color to code by 2040 so they can become innovators in STEM and leaders in their communities. Please join me in raising $2,300 for Black Girls Code for my 23rd birthday through the gofundme link in my bio. <3
More information about Black Girls Code Inc (Black Girls CODE): Our mission is to empower young women of color between the ages of 7-17 to embrace the current tech marketplace as builders and creators by introducing them to skills in computer programming and technology.
