Within the web of life, all creations depend on one another. This web of life holds the vibration of all creation, and is the heart and soul of Native American youth. Our youth are our future, our storytellers, the holders of our culture, languages, and traditions, the ones who will help prepare the way for the next seven generations.
The importance of preserving our cultural teachings is why I’m working with Stillpoint Engage to create an Elders Council that will envision programs to support Native American youth, based on Spiritual Way of Being. We will connect youth with elders and cultural ways of knowing, build community and inner strength, and work to address historical traumas and unresolved grief that are still being compounded, and so have remained invisible and unhealed.
We know that American Indian youth experience 3 times the rate of PTSD compared with the general population, and have the highest rates of depression of any ethnic or racial group. We also know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Native American youth, 2.5 times the national average, with long-term impacts for our communities. But these statistics don’t need to define our youth, or our future. That is why we are working to support youth, their healing, and their communities, with the guidance of an Elders Council. JOIN US.
