For my bat mitzvah project, I chose to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease
research — and it’s personal. My grandma, Susan Kahn, had recently passed away from this illness. She was so sweet, full of love, and could light up any room she walked into. She sneaked us sweets while making jokes. Her family was her biggest pride and she would always be proud of us. From making drawings together to watching broadway shows, she was my best friend.
I watched someone I loved deeply slowly become someone I didn’t always recognize. She forgot who we were, where she was, and even who she was. It was one of the hardest things my family has ever
gone through.
Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect the person who has it — it affects every
single person who loves them. My grandmother had a poor quality of life and I want other families to have more hope
than we did. Please consider donating — no amount is too small, and
every dollar goes toward finding a cure.
