Giving back to Aqua Marina – In Memory of Mohammed

Dear Freedivers, Dahab Community, and Friends of Aqua Marina Restaurant with Ali and Team,

As most of you know, this summer Mohammed, Co-Owner, Business Partner, and Brother of Ali, has sadly passed away. A great loss to all of us, but even more so to the team of Aqua Marina, and especially Ali.

We all know Ali as a cheerful soul, supportive, always making sure everyone is happy and cared for. Many of us have experienced his generosity, especially on a tough day: Ali will notice, place a tea, juice, or coffee in our hands, listen, or simply offer one of his famous smiles. He stands up for us, he deals with Blue Hole policies, snorkeler overloads, the chaos of forgotten gear and so much more! He feeds us delicious food with great service and celebrates several PB cakes and announcements every single day!

Next to Ali, Mohammed was always there with his warm smile and silent support. He was present on the front of Aqua Marina Bluehole with Ali for years. Since they opened the second Restaurant in Lagoona he was less at Bluehole but still an invaluable support. We remember him as a sweet and gentle giant, kind, humble, and full of warmth. Mohammed was an active part of our community, always radiating the same quiet strength and kindness that defined him.

In Islam, there is a tradition called Ṣadaqah Jāriyah (صدقة جارية) — “ongoing charity” — the idea that when someone passes away, their good deeds continue through projects that keep benefiting others.

We want to mimic this idea to honor Mohammed and support Ali. We want to finish building the second floor of Aqua Marina, completing the roof and/or adding new cushions and seating. A space where our community can continue to meet, laugh, and connect, carrying forward the generosity and warmth Mohammed embodied.

By supporting this project, we are honoring Mohammed in spirit. The second floor will not just be planks and cushions, but a living memory, a place where our freediving community continues to gather, share stories, and celebrate life, keeping Mohammed’s light alive.
