Standing beside Manuel Segovia - Support him and his family through battle with Cancer.
Hello Everyone,
If you know Manuel, then you are familiar with his unwavering selflessness, devotion and faith. Manuel has consistently demonstrated his commitment and care for his family, community, culture and church, always putting others before himself. Manuel and his wife, Irka moved to Canada with their young daughter in 2007. They decided to put their roots down in the community of Fort McMurray, where they raised their beautiful children, Sabrina and Santiago prior to having to relocate to Calgary in 2025 for medical care. During his time in Fort McMurray, Manuel continuously demonstrated devotion to his community and welcomed all friends, family, congregation members, and figure skaters into his home. Doing all this, whilst also supporting his remaining family members in Venezuela.
In April 2025, after experiencing severe shortness of breath, Manuel was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma, which is a cancer of the muscle lining. With further testing, it was found that Manuel has a “soft-ball” sized tumor inside of his inferior venacava, which is the large vein that carries blood to the heart from the lower body. Because of this, Manuel has continued to struggle with breathing, extreme fatigue and the formation of multiple blood clots in various parts of his body.
As of January 2026, Manuel has undergone 25 rounds of radiation therapy, with the goal of reducing the size of the tumour. Unfortunately, the tumour did not react as expected to radiation and has continued to grow.
On December 18th 2025, Manuel was given one year to live, and is going to be undergoing chemotherapy to manage his symptoms and extend his life expectancy. At this time, his healthcare team do not see surgery as a possible option, even after chemotherapy due to the fast spread and overall complexity of the tumor.
Due to this illness, Manuel has not been able to work since June 2025, and this reduction in income has severely impacted Manuel and his family. This is especially true, as Manuel and his wife continue to support their son, Santiago, through university in Lethbridge, AB.
At this time, we are asking for donations with the goal of lessening the burden of this disease on Manuel and his family, and allowing them to spend valuable time with one another over the next year.
Any and all donations are appreciated. Please keep Manuel, Irka, Sabrina and Santiago in your prayers.
