On the night of the Fourth of July, what should have been a day of celebration turned into a nightmare for the Meraz family. A firework landed on the roof of their home, causing a devastating house fire that changed their lives in an instant.
The Meraz family is a family of six and truly one of the kindest, most caring families you could ever meet. They are the type of people who are always there for others without expecting anything in return. Our families have become close through our daughters’ softball team, where two of their daughters play alongside ours, and I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand the love, strength, and generosity that defines their family.
While we’re incredibly thankful that everyone made it out safely, they have now been left to face the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives. As they work through the long process of rebuilding their home, they are also trying to replace everyday essentials, household necessities, and cover the many unexpected expenses that come with losing so much.
Adding to the heartbreak, their oldest daughter is supposed to celebrate her quinceañera next month—a milestone she has looked forward to for years. My hope is that, with the support of our community, we can help relieve some of the financial burden so she can still celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime occasion despite everything their family is going through.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping the Meraz family replace essential belongings, cover living expenses while they are displaced, and begin rebuilding their home and their lives. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for showing the Meraz family that they are not facing this difficult journey alone. Your kindness, generosity, and prayers will make a lasting difference during one of the hardest times they have ever experienced.
