On Thursday, Dec. 11th, we received a call that has left our entire family on edge. Our cousin, Fabiola, was able to briefly make a phone call, informing that she and her partner, Rene, had been picked up by ICE and were currently being detained. That call set our entire family into motion, with one clear and urgent priority, their kids.

Fabiola and Rene, a mother and step-father from the city of Pomona, while faithfully and honorably performing their job as Gardeners in the city of Upland were unexpectedly detained by ICE during an immigration raid in the area. Swept up, taken while working, leaving behind their gardening truck and equipment, without any family having knowledge of this moment in progress and their detention to follow. In an instant, a hard-working, devoted, loving and faithful mother and step-father were removed from their stable life built here, their day to day, their normal, and most importantly their loving children and home.

Their two kids, a high school senior, college-bound and nearing graduation and an 18-year-old son with autism who relies on his mother for comfort, routine, and emotional safety, for these kids, their mother is their world. Their home is their safe place. Losing both parental figures at once has been devastating and frightening as their future with their parents is unknown. In an instant, their lives have been turned upside down and now having to face decisions that do not take into account a life established and rooted in this country and continued need for their parents.

Yet even in this painful moment, their kids stand firm in faith, love, family and community!!! As the extended family, we are stepping in to ensure the kids are safe, housed, supported, and surrounded by care, but we are finding that we cannot do this alone. The costs are overwhelming for a family that was living paycheck to paycheck.

At this moment, our cousins are currently detained at the Adelanto Detention Center. We are urgently raising funds to ensure their kids can remain in their home, their safe place and urgently seeking legal support.

Funds raised will go directly towards their housing, basic needs, and seeking representation from a private attorney.

We believe that God is present in this struggle, that He hears our prayers, and that He works through compassion, community and love.
