Hands in Hope is a nationwide student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underserved communities through service, education, and student-led research. Through student-led chapters, outreach initiatives, educational programs, and community partnerships across the United States, we have reached over 60,000 people, supported more than 1,500 individuals, and engaged 250+ volunteers in meaningful service.
Our work has received national and international recognition, including global media coverage reaching audiences across 5 continents and 17 countries. Hands in Hope has also been featured by U.S. media outlets including FFXnow, WTOP, Patch, and 97.1 WASH-FM Radio, and our community impact has been recognized by Fairfax County Government.
We believe everyone deserves dignity, respect, and access to basic care, especially those who are too often overlooked. Our outreach extends beyond providing essential supplies. We distribute hygiene kits, clothing, and seasonal necessities while fostering human connection through handwritten notes, handmade items, and creative service projects that bring comfort, encouragement, and hope.
But our mission is not only about what we can provide today. We also believe in empowering young people to understand the health challenges affecting their communities and giving them the tools to help create change. Through our Health Ambassadors Program (HAP), students explore public health issues through hands-on, mentor-guided research. Participants develop their own research questions, review and organize scientific literature, extract and analyze data, and bring their findings together into a formal research paper. With guidance from mentors throughout the process, students build real-world research skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the health disparities affecting real people and communities. Their work culminates in a symposium where they share their research, findings, and ideas for creating healthier communities.
As high school students, our resources may be limited, but our commitment to service is not. Donations directly support our outreach programs, student research initiatives, educational resources, chapter expansion, and efforts to serve communities nationwide while continuing to expand our impact internationally.
