Support Earth Frequency Festival

Dear Earth Frequency & Australian Festival Community

Thank you all for once again for a beautiful edition of of Earth Frequency Festival, for it's 12 consecutive year. It is a massive process for the team each year to bring you this experience and it is something that we cherish each and every time.

From our origins as a 300 person, one night landcare doof, to now offering a 4 day transformational festival experience with 4 stages of music, 3 spaces of workshops and lectures, an art gallery, kids space, markets areas, permaculture learning retreat and a number of satellite events and projects, the journey and evolution has been incredible, and overwhelming at times.

The 2017 edition of Earth Frequency feels to us like the best and most fully articulated expression of the vision for Earth Frequency and we are blown away with the positive feedback from everyone. To all the musicians, artists, presenters, volunteers, staff and all the people who came along for it ... Thank you !!

The financial outcome from this year however has been a challenging one.   After consistently growing in size each year, for the first time in 12 years we have dropped in numbers and there has been a significant financial gap of approximately $135,000. This is proving to be a difficult outcome and it does raise some question marks about the future of the festival.

We expected that there may be a decline or at least a pause in growth and were prepared for it to some extent. In 2016, due to a smear campaign from a minority of local residents who can't yet see the benefits of events like Earth Frequency, council conditions were tighter and included some problematic noise restrictions. This degraded the festival experience and we understand some of our loyal audience wanted to wait a year to see how this edition went. We know this caused some concern and it would take some time to restore confidence, and that the best response to a difficult year would be to deliver our best edition yet, and that's what we did, but unfortunately the operating costs and ticket sales have not lined up as close as we had hoped.

We believe the future is bright for Earth Frequency Festival.  We have an awesome supportive venue with excellent facilities, after 4 years operating in this region we have the full support of Ipswich City Council and Scenic Rim Regional Council, and the festival itself has continued to become more creative, sustainable and professional.  Furthermore, we are now at the end point of a complex transition to establish a new format for the festival that will work for the long term, and help us fully embody the values we hold as a conscious, transformational festival.

At a time where the entire outdoor music festival culture in Australia is experiencing a lot of scrutiny, Earth Frequency has built a very solid platform for future viability, and it is our absolute intention to continue down this path and keep the festival running for years to come.

So for the first time in 12 years, we are calling on community to help us through this year's outcome.  The situation is difficult but not dire. It is a large figure, but still only represents a low % variation of the overall budget. A number of contingencies had been put in place to help deal with a possible shortfall this year, but we are still left with a gap to fill. We are hoping to raise $50,000 through this crowdfunder of the $135,000 deficit, as this will close the gap. A stretch goal has been set at $80,000 as this will mean the festival won't be using bank debt and will enter planning for 2018 in an even stronger position.

Asking for help is never easy especially when we already receive so much from our loyal patrons, artists, and crew.  However we know that many hands make light work of any task or challenge. The entire concept of Earth Frequency Festival is a to exist as a transformational festival and a community building platform, and the people involved all give a lot, often for very little in return other than the immense energetic rewards that come with creating a space like this.

We are asking all of our beautiful friends and supporters to consider what events like Earth Frequency Festival have offered you over time, and to help us with a donation to allow us to close the gap and to ensure Earth Frequency can return in full strength in 2018.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you !! <3
