Help Zoomies to Support Struggling Dog Owners

About Zoomies

Zoomies is a volunteer initiative dedicated to offering free dog-walking support to struggling dog owners across Ontario during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We at Zoomies understand that the pandemic poses additional risks to some members of the community and this heightened risk can make walking one's dog(s) a particularly daunting and dangerous task. Likewise, our incredible frontline workers and teachers are working difficult hours, often under immense stress, leaving less time and energy available to dedicate to their pet(s). We believe that no one should have to sacrifice care for their dog(s) due to obstacles beyond their control as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zoomies matches frontline workers, teachers, and vulnerable community members - for whom hiring a professional dog walker is not an option - with a volunteer dog walker in their area who will provide free, ongoing dog-walking support.

The Difference Zoomies is Making

Zoomies was sucessfully launched in May 2020. Since then, we have expanded Ontario-wide, have over 600 registered volunteers, and have been helping dog owners across the province. We have received numerous touching responses from the owners receiving our support such as:
"I can’t thank you enough for helping me out with my dog walking. I have some serious health issues and a senior on a very low budget. You and [my volunteer] are a god sent to me. She is amazing. Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart. What you are doing to help people like me is just amazing."
- A. S., Toronto

"As a frontline worker I can tell you just how amazing this is. One less thing to worry about having to get to during the day!"
- D. B., Toronto

Why Zoomies Needs Your Help

While operational costs are low, there are still routine expenses involved in running the program. To date, all expenses have been subsidized by myself, Jasper Newton, the initiative's sole founder. While I am committed to dedicating my time and energy to Zoomies, I am no longer in a position to continue its funding. I am requesting the public's help to cover the cost of one year of our operation.

How Your Donation Will be Used

Donations will be used to cover the costs associated with running the program such as:

- the software used (to run our website and email services)
- the printing of posters and business cards to be distributed in target areas (to assist with spreading the word of our initiative to owners who are not proficient with online platforms, such as some of our seniors)
- the cost of shipping supplies and transportation

What Your Donation Will Mean to Us and Our Members

By donating, you will be helping Zoomies to remain in operation throughout the pandemic. With the inevitable surge in COVID-19 cases over the winter months, thhere will undoubtedly be many, many more dog owners who will benefit from our service. To those owners and their dog(s), support from Zoomies means the world.
