Support Zhavia's Journey Through Surgery
Hi, my name is Grandma Diane. This is the story about Zhavia, my granddaughter, who just turned 6 years old a week ago! She was born with Spina Bifida. Her first surgery was hours after she was born to close the opening on her lower spine. Unsure if she would walk or what other complications she might endure. She was lucky in the sense that she could walk but does need assistance with leg braces, and a wheelchair now and then. She has been seeing a physical and speech therapist her whole life. She's a real trooper and brings a smile to anyone who meets her. There are times when mom spends the whole day at the SB clinic to check-in with all of Zhavias doctors. Its a long day trying to keep two little one entertained between each doctor visit.
Now she has to have her second surgery, bladder augmentation, Mitrofanoff and mini ace will also be placed. She will have a temporary colostomy bag. This was something they knew might have to happen. That day is here. It can be a 5 to 10 hour surgery. I can't go into more detail, it's a lot. Zhavia will be in the hospital from 5 to 7 days. Recovery is about 2 months. We are all very optimistic for this procedure and are here to help in whatever way we can. Zhavia has a 15-year-old sibling and a 4-year-old sibling. The 15-year-old is very supportive and helpful, knowing the difficulties that come with this disability. They support mom with whatever she needs. Dad works long hard days to keep his family healthy and happy.
It's a long road and lifelong struggle. Zhavia can use your prayers, emotional, and financial support.
We appreciate you.
