Homeownership is a challenge for many young adults, especially those with intersecting marginalized identities. Last summer, Zarie discovered an opportunity for first-time homebuyers to purchase accessibly priced condos below market rate. After signing up on a whim, we were surprised and thrilled to be offered the chance to move forward in the process.

This kick-started a months-long journey of paperwork, mandated classes, payments, meetings with lenders, financial advisors, attorneys, and credit repair experts—all while seeking advice from loved ones. From July to January, this process has consumed our focus, energy, and resources.

Today, we are overjoyed to share that we’ve been approved to purchase an ADA-compliant condo! This home will allow Antonio to navigate comfortably with his mobility aids and will also accommodate friends and family when they visit.

We’re reaching out to our community to ask for your support in covering the remaining deposit costs, totaling $4,100. While we have a plan to meet this payment, the process has exhausted our savings. As trans people of color and disabled individuals who have survived homelessness, financial challenges hit us disproportionately hard. Reaching this milestone has been a monumental achievement, and now we’re asking for mutual aid to bring us across the finish line.
