Support Zachary's Recovery from Firework Accident
Donation protected
On July 3rd, 2024, our family was celebrating the 4th early so everyone could partake in the festivities. My 19-year-old nephew, Zachary Sane and my 17-year-old nephew, Talmadge Bradley were so excited to be in charge of the fireworks this year. Zachary had been working and had used his own money to purchase nearly all of the fireworks. Both Zachary and Talmadge understood the dangers of fireworks and were properly schooled in firework safety. The night was going well and the fireworks were beautiful. All of the sudden in a freak accident a mortar fell over and fired sideways. Zachary was over 20 feet away at a safe distance and he saw it coming towards him. He turned around to brace for impact of the mortar. The mortar hit him in the back of his left arm, underarm and back. It lodged, exploded and tore a gaping chunk of flesh from his body. His Mom recalls seeing his flesh hanging, bleeding and a HUGE part of his back and arm missing! Thankfully, he was rushed to UT Medical Center and they did surgery to immediately debride the wound. The surgeon called it a blast wound like the ones someone in combat would suffer. The wound is a foot long and deep as your outstretched hand. The pictures are too graphic to show! The slightest change in direction and it would have been fatal. God was definitely watching over Zachary! Zachary has now been in the hospital over a week and has had a total of 6 surgeries so far. He now has a wound vac to help him heal. He is in alot of pain but has maintained an amazing attitude. Zach's mother and father have been staying around the clock with Zach taking shifts. His discharge plan is uncertain at this time. When he does go home, he will have a long road to recovery. He will have a minimum of 3 appointments per week to maintain his wound vac. He may be facing additional surgeries and possibly skin grafting. He will not be able to work for some time to come. In addition, his parents and step parents will miss work due to helping with his care. Zach has medical insurance however it doesn't cover all of the extensive costs for his care. The travel cost and extra expenses the family will have will be enormous.Several people have wanted to know how they can help? One can help in several ways by praying specifically for complete healing. Pray for peace of mind for the family and Zachary. Pray for the doctors and nurses. Pray for the methods of his care and relief for the financial strain on the family. One can donate money to help with the long-term financial burdens of his continued care. Thank you!
