Support Sharon's Fight Against Cancer

Sharon Barnett:
I am a 63-year-old, single mother of a son in his final semester at Arizona State University, and I was diagnosed in February with Stage-4 neuroendocrine cancer of the lungs, liver, and pancreas. This has been a devastating blow to us in every way imaginable. My son Zachary has and always will be my primary caregiver, and this breaks my heart. I was originally given 2 months to live without chemotherapy back in February. Since then, I have been fighting hard, having completed a full series of chemotherapy and radiation, and collectively, I have attended over 92 visits in the past 6 months between week-long hospital stays, appointments, physical therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, neurology, and internal medicine specialists, to name a few. Zachary is a full-time student, taking care of me, and attempting to operate a mobile detailing business he owns to keep us above water. However, he is the only operator, and the business has never generated enough income to fully support himself, let alone both of us. He is currently looking for more work and is even selling blood plasma for extra money.

We have no additional support here in Tempe and rent is being paid by my social security disability payment each month. This leaves us very, very little funds for the rest of life’s expenses. We are eating from food banks and have been applying for many public assistance programs, but currently, we are only being assisted via a utility reduction plan for our electricity. I believe we can survive until he completes school on 12/4/2025, but we do not have the money to move, nor can we afford where we are presently living, given the circumstances, especially with me unable to work.

What we desperately need help with is moving expenses to North Carolina after Zachary graduates. My son has 3 dear friends there whom he has known since middle school, and I strongly feel he will need the emotional support of those friends as this disease progresses, and I pass on. We are asking for money for a U-Haul, trailer, hotels and gas money to make it across the country.

Zachary Barnett:
I'm a senior at Arizona State about to graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Conservation Biology and Ecology. I love my mother more than words are capable of describing. She has given me life itself and has sacrificed more than I will ever be able to comprehend. Her and I will always be a team, and I will continue to do whatever is in my power for her. Any assistance we receive will be directly contributing to our survival, thank you for your consideration.
