Hi! My name is Stella Yumar, and I’m the founder of the Young Sparks Writers Club (YSWC). We are a free after-school creative writing program designed to help elementary students discover confidence, imagination, and a love for storytelling.

What started as a small idea has grown into a weekly space where kids express themselves, share their stories proudly, and develop real writing skills in a supportive, joyful environment. We’re now preparing for our end-of-semester celebration, where each student will gift their family a handmade picture book they’ve written and illustrated themselves.

This project has become incredibly meaningful not just for the students, but for their families, teachers, and our volunteers who witness their growth week after week.

Why We’re Fundraising

To keep YSWC free and accessible to every student, we’re raising funds for:

- Art + writing supplies (markers, paper, cardstock, ribbons, hole punchers)

- Materials to bind each student’s picture book

- Our end-of-semester celebration

- Printing costs, future curriculum development, and club expansion

- Program growth so that more Miami schools can offer YSWC in the future

Every contribution (big or small) directly supports our students and helps keep this program running at no cost to families.

The Impact

YSWC has already helped students become more confident in sharing their writing, grow more extroverted and excited to tell stories, express emotions creatively, build real writing and storytelling skills, and feel proud of something they created entirely.
