Support Yessenia Funes' Family During ICE Crisis
Donation protected
Yessenia Funes is not only my friend but also my co-creator of the CARES Media Project, where we work to develop trauma-informed climate journalism for audiences, sources, and climate journalists. Yessenia’s powerful storytelling about climate change and climate justice has touched thousands across the country, including myself. Now, she and her family are facing a crisis that no one should have to endure alone.
Recently, Yessenia’s uncle—her mother’s brother and a central figure in her life—was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) despite having Temporary Protected Status and a work permit. He has struggled with addiction and was taken during a probation hearing, leaving the family in shock and fear. The uncertainty about his whereabouts and future has left Yessenia’s family in a state of helplessness, forced to navigate a confusing and often unresponsive system while trying to support their loved one.
We are raising funds to support Yessenia’s family as they face mounting legal fees, living expenses, and any other needs that arise during this difficult time. The family will decide how best to use the support, whether for legal aid, daily costs, or other urgent needs. Your donation will help them focus on caring for each other and fighting for justice, rather than worrying about financial survival. Please consider donating to help Yessenia’s family through this crisis.
