My good friend, Tamana Bahar (a pseudonym to protect her), has been living in the U.S. since 2021. She came on a student visa from Afghanistan, and after attaining a graduate degree in Global Health, she is now applying for asylum.
While in Afghanistan she worked for an agency to provide assistance to the poor, and was able to support her family.
For the past five years, she and I have run successful campaigns to assist Afghan women and families whom she personally knows, who are widowed or infirm, so that they will have food and firewood during the winter and during Ramadan.
As a highly educated and qualified woman, Tamana is extremely capable to do the work she was trained for. However, it prevented by her current legal status.
Currently, her legal status is at a standstill due to intense scrutiny of immigrants, refugees, and especially those from Afghanistan under the current administration.
Tamana's long-term needs are legal, but her immediate needs are financial. We are seeking to raise $5,000 to assist her with basic living expenses, such as grocerie, and transportation to medical appointments - the need of which has arisen due to the enormous stress she is carrying - as well as professional tools, such as the purchase of a Microsoft license and Dragon Speech Recognition software, due to nerve pain.
Any amount that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Know that every dollar will go directly towards the strengthening of the U.S. economy because once Tamana is on her feet, she will contribute positively to U.S. society.
God bless you for your kindness,
Fern and Tamana
