Support Cultural Resistence in Gaza: a Women's Film Festival

Cultura è Libertà, an association based in Italy, since more than 10 years, is dedicated to support Palestinian Culture in Italy and in Palestine. My name is Alessandra Mecozzi and I am the President of it. Together with other Associations*, we wish to support a project by a friend of us, the President of the Jerusalem International Film Festival, dr. Ezzeldeen Shahl, living in Gaza. His dream is our dream.

MAKE AN UTOPIA POSSIBLE: HELP THE FIRST EDITION OF THE GAZA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR WOMEN'S CINEMA

A women's film festival in Gaza in 2025?? It seems like a dream or a utopia. Dreaming means looking to the future with hope, and making a utopia possible: the women's cinema festival. That's why we were captured by the determination, sumud, of its creator: Ezzeldeen Al Shahl, the President of the Jerusalem International Film Festival, who is living in Gaza. With the enthusiasm of collaborators, he asks to contribute to support the Festival project which is composed of two parts: a preparatory professional training, for 20 young women in Gaza. And then the Festival itself.

The students and aspiring filmmakers will produce five short films of about ten minutes each. The five shorts will be presented as a single film of 50 minutes during the festival that will follow. The women's cinema festival will be focused on the subject "women", showing, especially in situations of genocide, the love and the fight for life, care and resistance. We want to support the entire project, starting with the workshops, and we ask you to help us to do so. We are a group of associations that love Palestine and its historic and rich cultural resistance. We admire the Palestinian ability to resist and look to the future even in the most terrible moments, such as the genocide in Gaza and the ferocious violence of Israel also in the West Bank. We intend to expand the network to other countries, and involve both associations and individuals.

What is needed?

It will be necessary to rent a space dedicated to training for a period of five months (May-September). Five tutors will follow the 20 participants in the training. Filmmakers, actors, international personalities from the world of cinema will be invited as special guests.

Funds will also be needed for documentation and research, the purchase of archive images and the use of technical equipment (video camera, sound, lights). The total estimated cost for the entire

course of the workshops is 20,000 dollars.

Il suo sogno è il nostro sogno.

AIUTA A REALIZZARE LA PRIMA EDIZIONE DEL GAZA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL FOR WOMEN'S CINEMA: UN' UTOPIA POSSIBILE

Un festival di cinema delle donne a Gaza nel 2025?? Sembra un sogno o un'utopia. Sognare vuol dire guardare al futuro con speranza, e rendere possibile un'utopia: il festival. Per questo ci ha catturato la determinazione, il sumud palestinese, del suo ideatore: Ezzeldeen Al Shahl il Presidente del Jerusalem International Film Festival, che vive a Gaza. Con l'entusiasmo di collaboratrici e collaboratori, chiede di contribuire al sostegno del progetto del Festival che si compone di due parti: in primo luogo una formazione professionale preparatoria, per 20 ragazze di Gaza. Le giovani allieve e aspiranti cineaste dovranno realizzare cinque cortometraggi della durata di circa dieci minuti ciascuno. I cinque corti saranno presentati come un unico film della durata di 50 minuti durante il festival. Seguirà il Festival centrato sul soggetto "donne", mostrando, in particolare nelle situazioni di genocidio, l'amore e la lotta per la vita, la cura e la resistenza.

Sostenere la formazione

Vogliamo sostenere tutto il progetto, cominciando dai workshops, e vi chiediamo di aiutarci a farlo. Siamo un gruppo di associazioni* in Italia e non solo che amano la Palestina e la sua storica e ricca resistenza culturale. Ammiriamo la capacità palestinese di resistere e guardare al futuro anche nei momenti più terribili, come il genocidio a Gaza e la violenza feroce di Israele anche in Cisgiordania. Intendiamo allargare la rete ad altri paesi, e coinvolgere sia associazioni che singoli/e.

Che cosa serve?

Sarà necessario affittare uno spazio dedicato alla formazione per un periodo di cinque mesi (maggio-settembre) Cinque tutor seguiranno le 20 partecipanti nella formazione. Verranno invitati come ospiti speciali cineasti/e, attori/trici, personalità internazionali del mondo del cinema.

Saranno inoltre necessari fondi per la documentazione e la ricerca, l’acquisto di immagini d’archivio e l’utilizzo dell’attrezzatura tecnica (videocamera, suono, luci). Il costo complessivo stimato per l’intero svolgimento dei workshops è di 20.000 dollari.
