Support WNC & Old Fort NC: Urgent Disaster Relief
Donation protected
Friends, I just arrived home from WNC. While utility crews, disaster relief organizations, and charitable organizations are doing everything they can, the devastation is too widespread and the effort too large. Resources and help cannot possibly get to all of the affected areas through traditional means. If it isn’t flooded, there’s a tree on it - everywhere. The area needs communities and people to act swiftly and with purpose.
There will be a caravan of volunteers leaving from the 12 Oaks Clubhouse parking lot on Friday at 7:00 AM heading to Old Fort, NC (20 miles east of Asheville on Interstate 40) - please volunteer and make the trip.
A 20 ft U-Haul will be parked in the 12 Oaks Clubhouse lot starting on Wednesday. I hope we need more than one.
We need the following:
1. Water - lots of water. It’s going to be weeks or longer before water is restored in many communities.
2. Food - non-perishables
3. Baby formula and diapers
4. Equipment
- Chainsaws and fuel (fuel is a major logistical challenge right now - folks are driving 50 miles to get it).
- Skid steers and equivalents, trucks to pull rented skid steers and equivelants, as well as money to rent such equipment.
- Shovels, gloves, wheelbarrows, and rakes
If you donate here, Funds will be used to rent equipment, acquire additional supplies, assist with long-term staging, and will be given to local charities/non-profits. Pictures and documentation of monies spent will be provided. Speed matters and we’ll circle back on documentation.
Thank you!
