Support with volunteering in the Deaf community

Donation protected
Hi my name is Anna, I am fundraising to volunteer with the deaf community. Many deaf children face persistent barriers in communication, education and daily life, particularly from those brought up in non-signing households. Life can be very hard with nobody to talk to.

Limited access to sign language can have a huge impact on deaf children's development, education and confidence.

Education, social interaction and play is crucial, it empowers the children which is so important at such a young age.

As a parent all you want for your child is to be happy, healthy, kind and successful. So I need some help, in August 2026 I will be travelling to Sri Lanka to volunteer at a school for deaf children for 2 weeks. I will be travelling alone and meeting a fantastic organisation there called 'VoluntEars'.

People keep asking my why and why so far? this is a cause which means a lot to me and during my time studying British Sign Language, I have learnt a lot about the struggles the deaf community have faced and are continuing to face especially in education. The schools for the deaf in Sri Lanka are sadly underfunded and overlooked. At present there are no known deaf children who have left a school in Sri Lanka and gone onto university. This is due to communication barriers and funding, can you imagine if this was your child?

Many of these schools rely entirely on volunteers, which is why I have decided to go. Every child deserves the right to clean, safe schools and access to quality education, it shouldn't come down to money and language barriers but it so often does.

I will be supporting in renovating the children's school, classrooms, play areas etc (yes in that heat!) as well as supporting with school work and daily activities. This will help towards creating spaces for the children to feel safe, valued and included.

This trip is entirely self funded, so I am asking for donations, 50p, £5 or whatever you can, it all helps and will be greatly appreciated. Every single donation will go towards making this opportunity possible for the children.

I will share regular updates throughout, so you can see exactly what the money had helped us to achieve, also you can find the most recent educational trips on the website 'VoluntEars', the work they do is inspirational!

These children are not wanting the latest mobile or ipad, they just want to learn and thrive in the future, that's why they need our help.
I could talk about this important topic for hours but I will not go on.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you are able to help.
