My name is Wilberto Rivera, but most folks know me as Will or Berto. I’m 41 years old, a proud father of six beautiful children: Arianna (19), Kassidy (18), Zayn (9), Javier (20), Andre (19), and Viviana (24). I recently became a grandpa to baby CJ, just 7 months old — and that little smile gives me strength every single day.

I’ve been diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) — a genetic condition that has now progressed into end-stage kidney failure. My kidneys are no longer functioning, and I’m facing one of the hardest battles of my life.

After years of pain, hospital visits, and holding on to hope, my doctors have scheduled a Bilateral Native Nephrectomy on June 26, 2025 — a major surgery where both of my kidneys will be removed. This is not a transplant — not yet. I actually had a match before, but the new kidney couldn’t fit properly in my body. Now I have to go through this surgery first, spend 7 days in the hospital, and begin a 6–8 week recovery journey.

This situation has taken a huge toll on my family, especially financially. My fiancée, my rock, lost her job to care for me full-time. Between dialysis, emergencies, and round-the-clock care, she made the sacrifice — but now we’re overwhelmed.

We’re behind on bills, struggling with rent, and trying to make sure our kids still have what they need. I’ve never been one to ask for help, but I’m humbly asking now.

Hola, mi nombre es Wilberto Rivera — pero muchos me conocen como Will o Berto. Tengo 41 años, y soy papá orgulloso de seis hijos: Arianna (19), Kassidy (18), Zayn (9), Javier (20), Andre (19) y Viviana (24). Hace poco también me convertí en abuelo de un bebé hermoso, CJ, que solo tiene 7 meses. Esa sonrisa me da fuerza todos los días.

Fui diagnosticado con Enfermedad Poliquística Renal (PKD). Es una condición genética que ahora se convirtió en falla total de los riñones. Ya no me funcionan, y estoy enfrentando una de las peleas más duras de mi vida.

Tengo una cirugía programada para el 26 de junio llamada Nefrectomía Nativa Bilateral — eso significa que me van a quitar los dos riñones. No es trasplante todavía. Ya había tenido un donante antes, pero el riñón no encajaba bien en mi cuerpo. Así que este paso es necesario primero. Después de la cirugía, estaré 7 días en el hospital y luego de 6 a 8 semanas en recuperación.

Todo esto nos ha golpeado fuerte, especialmente en lo económico. Mi prometida — que ha estado conmigo en todo — perdió su trabajo por cuidarme a tiempo completo. Entre citas, emergencias y diálisis, ella hizo el sacrificio… pero ahora estamos ahogados.

Estamos atrasados en la renta, con problemas para pagar comida, luz, y todo lo demás. Nunca me ha gustado pedir ayuda, pero en este momento la necesitamos urgente.
