Support Willow's Family Move to a Safer Home

Hello! Our names are Willow, Joseph, Sammy, Lego, and Theo! We are a small, queer, and neurodivergent family currently living in Houston, TX.
The social and political climate here has always been a bit rough, but things are rapidly becoming more and more dangerous for families like ours. Texas no longer feels like a safe place to raise our daughter. As her parents, we are deeply concerned about what her future will look like if we stay.
Greg Abbott is destroying the public school system here in Texas. His recent “school choice” bill is taking taxpayer money and funneling it into private schools—many of which are not accessible or inclusive. As a low-income family, we shouldn’t have to fight, claw, and scratch just to access a decent education for our child. Sammy deserves to learn in a place where she is safe, accepted, and not discriminated against just because she is different—or because her parents are different.
On top of that, I (Willow) am autistic and living with multiple chronic health conditions. Navigating the medical system here has been a nightmare. There is an incredible lack of support, resources, or even basic understanding—especially for someone like me who is both neurodivergent and low-income. I've spent years trying to get help, only to be dismissed, misdiagnosed, or ignored. I need to live somewhere I can actually access care, and be treated with the dignity and compassion every human deserves.
We also want to grow our family and give Sammy a sibling someday. But in a state with some of the strictest abortion bans in the country, pregnancy feels terrifying. If something were to go wrong and I needed a medically necessary abortion to save my life, I don’t know if I’d be given that chance here. The risk is too high. We want to bring another child into the world surrounded by safety, stability, and choice—not fear.
That’s why we’re trying to move to Washington state—a place with better healthcare access, a more inclusive school system, reproductive freedom, and a community that is safer and more accepting of families like ours.
This move includes all of us—me, my husband Joseph, our amazing daughter Sammy, and our two beloved cats, Lego and Theo. They are part of our little support system and deserve a peaceful home just as much as we do.
We’re doing everything we can to make this move happen, but the cost of relocating across the country is far more than we can manage on our own. Your support will help us cover:
- Moving expenses (truck rental, gas, tolls)
- First month’s rent and deposit
- Basic household necessities
- Food and travel costs during the move
- Safe transport and care for Lego and Theo during the journey
Every donation helps, no matter how small. And if you can’t donate, sharing this with your network would mean the world to us.
We just want to give our daughter—and our whole family—a chance to grow in a world that sees us, values us, and keeps us safe. Thank you for helping us get there.
With love and gratitude,
Willow, Joseph, Sammy, Lego & Theo
