Weston is very active 5 year old who has a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (a condition where the heart muscle is abnormally thick). Weston has been being seen in Pittsburgh every 3 months to have an echo and ekg done to monitor his condition. Weston recently tested positive for lymes disease and because of this his cardiologist wanted to see him earlier than his next scheduled appointment to check on his heart.
Terra took him to his appointment in Pittsburgh on July 18th. After his echo, the cardiologist talked to me and expressed her concern about the thickness of his heart and how much harder his heart is working. Due to this she has strongly recommended surgery. Weston will have an open heart surgery within the next couple weeks to scrape down his thick heart muscle in hopes to reduce the amount of medication he will need and improve his heart function.
We are unsure of a date for the surgery but we will know more when the doctor calls us next Thursday. Weston will be staying in the hospital for at least a week after surgery then be on light activity for 6 weeks at home. As of right now this is all the information we have.
Terra also has a Facebook page dedicated to updates on Weston, if you would like to be added to it please let me know. Thank you all for your love, thoughts and prayers. I will update with more information when I have it.
