The Problem in Jackson, Mississippi:
Jackson’s ongoing water woes finally hit a breaking point. After years of decay and disregard, Jackson residents were left without clean drinking water for weeks and the National Guard starting distributing water as a state of emergency was called. Local groups organized and advocated for the most vulnerable Jacksonians and Leaders started implementing fixes, but there is still a lot of work to do. On an average week, there are dozens of residential and business streets and hundreds of people impacted by boil water alerts in Jackson but the information isn’t getting to the people that need it.
There is a major gap - when there is a boil-water notice it can be challenging for people to get informed quickly enough to act appropriately. This creates a risk to people's health and a risk to restaurants providing for patrons. It's also challenging to get notified when it's safe to use the water again.
We are filling these gaps.
Our Solution:
This service is free to Jacksonians and operates on a non-profit basis.
An SMS alert (text message) will automatically be pushed to the subscriber's phone when a notice is issued ensuring timely notification. Additionally, a notification will be sent when the alert is lifted so people know when they can safely use their water again.

How YOU Can Help:
The founders have absorbed over $50,000 worth of product and software development cost to develop the automated system and launch a successful product at the beginning of 2024. The founders don't take any compensation and all funds have been used for unavoidable operational and sustainment costs (SMS network fees, server costs, etc). Some initial funding was received in 2024 from non-profit organizations which has allowed the system to send over 100,000 text alerts over the last 8 months but it won't been enough to support ongoing messaging costs and maintenance as we scale.
Your donation will go direct towards helping us:
- Continue to provide boil alerts via SMS multiple times a day and instantly through and X/Twitter
- Scale to our goal of 100,000 Jackson residents subscribed
- Make improvements to our already lean system to reduce the cost further allowing every dollar donated to serve even more Jacksonians with notifications moving forward.
We only have a month's worth of runway left. Please consider donating today!
