Support Walt's Eagle Scout Project at Common Roots Farm
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Walt, and I’m a sophomore at Scotts Valley High School working on my Eagle Scout service project at Common Roots Farm, a non-profit market farm in Santa Cruz. I'm lucky to have found a great beneficiary for my project. Common Roots Farm not only produces quality produce and flowers, but it also hosts programs for adults with disabilities. It’s a place where people of all abilities come together to grow food, harvest, package goods, and share in the joy of farming.
This project has special meaning to me and my family because of my brother Henry’s disability and our hope that all people with disabilities can connect with their community through valuable, fun activities in adulthood. It’s also a major milestone in my 10 year Scouting path.

For my Eagle Scout project, I’m renovating the volunteer break area at the farm to create a more comfortable and accessible space where the workers can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. My project includes three main tasks:
- Installing TrueGrid flooring: Cleaning out a walkway and patio area and creating a sturdy, wheelchair-accessible surface.
- Building a redwood, ADA-compliant picnic table: Enabling people to sit together and enjoy their breaks.
- Designing and constructing a volunteer station: Providing rain cover, cubbies for belongings, and a communication area through a redwood structure.
I'm working together with my troop, family, friends, and mentors to plan and execute this project. So far, I’m already learning a lot about woodworking, design, planning, and communication, and I’m excited to see how our efforts will make a lasting impact at the farm.
I would greatly appreciate any support. Donations will help cover the cost of lumber, hardware, flooring materials, and other necessary supplies. Any contribution, no matter the size, will not only enable the completion of this project, but also show your support for this farm and what they do for our community.
(If there happen to be any funds in excess of what is needed for the project, they will be donated directly to Common Roots Farm to help continue their mission of inclusive agriculture.)
Thank you so much for your support!
