Last night, after closing out what felt like a perfect Saturday night at Wally’s, a fire broke out in the restaurant. Thanks to the quick response time of the local police and hard work by the amazing volunteer firefighters of this community, our staff, our guests, and our wonderful neighbors are all safe. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
The building can be repaired. We will rebuild. We will reopen. That’s what insurance is for.
But right now, our hearts are with the people who make Wally’s what it is.
If you know Long Beach Island, then you know the rhythm of life here. Our staff works tirelessly all year, but summer is everything. These next 12 to 14 weeks are when they earn the money that helps carry them through the quieter winter months, pay off debt, support their families, and get ahead before the off-season returns.
Wally’s has never just been a restaurant. It’s a family. It’s late nights, shared laughs, familiar faces, and people who show up for each other without hesitation.
Last night, two young staff members ran back into a burning building to make sure their manager was okay. That is who these people are. That is Wally’s.
Every dollar raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to our staff to help bridge the gap until we are able to reopen our doors. Whether it helps cover rent, groceries, bills, or simply gives someone a little breathing room during an uncertain time, it will make a difference.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, checked in, offered help and shared kind words. Your love for Wally’s and for this community means more than we can put into words.
We’ll be back. And when we are, it’ll be because of this incredible community standing beside us.
