For years, Waipuilani has been maintained by locals who donate their own money and time. Namely, Dan and In Fryer, who sweep the courts, fix the nets, maintain and provide the sign-up board, and fix or provide sun shades. Recently, I have joined them in their crusade to keep Waipuilani playable. After the recent storms, many of our wind shades and sun shades were damaged and/or destroyed. Using personal funds and time, the shades were replaced or re-attached. Although we enjoy helping, the costs can get pricey.

Waipuilani is a special place for so many in our community. On any given day, you’ll find people of all ages gathering to play, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors. The sunshades and wind barriers make it possible for everyone to stay comfortable and safe, even during the hottest days or when the trade winds pick up. We want to keep this space welcoming and accessible for all, but we can’t do it alone.
